The pair fall foul of conman Gary Samuels when he tricks them into investing in a fake nightclub development and teams up with several other locals to bring him down. Martin's next scheme is to impress businesswoman Stacey Macklin by getting Celia Stewart to sell her store, which is needed for a development, to her. He and Lance try to get her to sell up by planting a cockroach in a cereal packet but it fails and Stacey chooses a different site. He and Lance later record a record for charity which a friend of Stacey's, Nina Olivera , markets as a novelty record. Nina offers to make them stars but Lance, unhappy with having Nina ordering them about, deliberately wrecks their big chance by revealing they have been miming to all their records.
She admits that she loves him and Alf is short with her, but after catching Martha packing her bags, they agree to see where things go between them. When Martha struggles to contact Roo, who is teaching in a remote area, she panics and works herself into a state. After Roo finally gets in contact, Martha calms down and explains to Alf that the anxiety is a result of her BPD. Upon their return to the Bay, they tell Roo that they are in a relationship. Martha leaves a few days later, having explained that she will continue to live in Marimbula.

He had a long career as an inventory control officer with Hoffmann-La Roche in Belleville New Jersey. A loving father, grandfather, brother and friend to many, Brian will be missed by all who knew and loved him. When Martin gets a girlfriend, Lance feels alone and runs away. No one notices Lance has even gone and he later returns claiming to have a girlfriend named Marilyn.

When Colleen suffers a turn during an argument with Debbie, Debbie accuses her of faking but Lance sees she is genuine. Lance is next seen when he arrives on the eve of Sally's wedding to Kieran Fletcher and reconnects with Martin who left the army before he did and they celebrate Kieran's stag night, getting drunk. After Keiran's infidelity is exposed, Lance is there to comfort Sally. The following year, Lance returns with his daughter, Maggie in the midst of a split with Debbie. Debbie follows Lance to the Bay and they reconcile, leaving once more. Lance then joins a band but the manager, Nina Olivera , attempts to use his talent to make more money than Lance.
Alf tells their daughter Roo Stewart that Martha did not die as previously thought, but she had in fact disappeared as she was unhappy with her life. Roo tries to find her mother, but is unsuccessful, until Martha makes her own way to Summer Bay. The character returns the following year, after receiving a phone call from Alf, which leads them to reconcile romantically. Meagher thought that Martha was probably the love of his life, despite his marriage to Ailsa Stewart . He also joked about that Martha being alive may have made Alf a bigamist. Martha temporarily leaves after her borderline personality disorder causes her anxiety.

Morag decides to rewrite the contract so it is fair for Lance. Marilyn decides to distance herself from Lance for band image purposes. Lance feel as though Nina is manipulating him and gets cold feet at the fame he faces.
Martha is contacted by her son Kieran Baldivis and she confides in Irene Roberts about him. She decides to go to Merimbula to see him and tell him about her marriage to Alf. He asks whether she would have told him if Kieran had not contacted her, but realises she probably would not have done. Martha then tells Roo that she has a half-brother, and explains that their relationship is complicated and he has not been in her life for a number of years. Martha admits to Alf and Roo that she was terrified she was going to lose them if they knew about Kieran.
Brax is vague about his encounter and refuses to fully explain how he got the money from Dean. A decade later, Lance returns for Sally's surprise 21st birthday party. During his visit, Lance helps rescue some refugees and reveals to Colleen he has since been discharged from the army and is now married to Debbie , who Colleen takes a dislike to.
Stevenson said that he liked playing Adam, but noted he was nothing like his character because he is more responsible than Adam is. A columnist for Inside Soap said that Adam is a "one-time joker" and a "happy-go-lucky type of character".Stevenson returned for a guest stint in 1999 and admitted that not much had changed on the series. You can only explore that for so long - if you do that more than a few times, it starts to get a little redundant. The writer of 'The Red Road,' Aaron Guzikowski, deserves the credit. The fact that the dialogue is so understated is what makes this show so appealing, especially as an actor. Where typically the cops are generally the good guys, 'The Red Road' blurs the lines intelligently and shows corruption from all sides of the law. It provides unpredictable drama where the audience is kept guessing about how these characters will each choose to act. When I arrived in LA I assumed I'd be able to put on the American accent.
When Tom Fletcher is fired from his job, Lance and Martin arrange a strike. Lance then gets Donald's cat drunk on the home brew and hides it until it sobers up. Lance then drills a hole in the shower block at the caravan park so he can spy on Dawn , a resident. Her boyfriend, Russell discovers the hole and another woman hits Lance with a broom. Lance and Martin start a rumour that Carly is sleeping with the science teacher Andrew Foley , which results in his career being ruined and he leaves Summer Bay.
